A Parisian Inspired Picnic
Whimsy florals and inescapable time at home served as inspiration for a weekend picnic in the yard. Our burnt orange tablecloth created a vibrant canvas for our fixings - quaint dishes and glassware to fill and arrange. We set the food atop a walnut slab. A couple brass dishes for nuts and seeds, white linen napkins, and a pair of true duralex tumblers for the wine! It was a Provençal rosé that was light and cold. The florals, some dainty white wax flower and red-orange stems that stood easy at attention amidst it all.
The menu. In lieu of baguette, we slathered toasted slices with chèvre, good smoked salmon, some tiny green capers for bite, and delicately sliced red onion. Fresh dill from the garden hit a lovely sort of savor, and behind each sip of that crisp rosé, a slice of pear, apple, or even a tangerine wedge adding a flirty sweetness that stayed on the pallete! We nibbled toasted almonds and read our books while the sun warmed the whole 50° scene till sweaters were too much. At last we both dozed off, awaking we knew we’d done a good thing, and said, “We definitely better do this again.”
